Modern Studies

Pupils in S5 and S6 can choose to study Higher Modern Studies.  We have two well-equipped classrooms and use a mixture of interactive and traditional teaching methods to guide our students to success. The subject, which is unique to the Scottish curriculum, allows our students to engage with the issues that are affecting the world in which they are growing up.

Pupils will typically find themselves debating the impact of the latest government welfare reform on those living below the poverty line or researching the fate of human rights protestors in China. The nature of our subject allows our teaching to reflect current national and international affairs.

In recent years a number of our pupils have gone on to university to read International Relations and we see this as a direct reflection of the way in which Modern Studies at Morrison’s Academy inspired them.

Modern Studies has helped me understand the politics of the world I live in.
