“For last year's words belong to last year's language
And next year's words await another voice.”
― T.S. Eliot, Four Quartets

From a tweet to a tome, a blog to a blockbuster, a text to a travel brochure, a poem to a play, Morrison’s Academy English department encourages both the reading and writing of a panoply of genres. In a rapidly changing world of language and literature, it is vital that pupils and teachers are aware of the vast variety of ‘texts’ that are available, whether electronically or in the ‘traditional’ format. We treasure our heritage of great authors but we also acknowledge that keeping abreast of the times is vitally important. At the heart of this acceptance of the old and the new, we also still recognise the importance and value of accuracy in the written and spoken forms of language.

Our teaching approach which includes challenging, engaging tasks and effective collaborations between staff and pupils has led to years of outstanding academic results, well above the national average.

Beyond the classroom, the English department is also heavily involved in the co-curricular life of the school: trips to the theatre; involvement in drama and musical productions, and debating.

Morrison’s Academy English Department – words never fail us.

English is great because we can develop projects from books and stories using our imagination. I love it.
