Boulder Room

Thursday, 09 Nov 2017

The Nursery children have been making the most of the Boulder room where they are learning different strategies for scaling the walls and moving from one side of the room to the other. They are employing a wealth of skills from problem-solving, risk management and importantly strengthening their gross motor skills. The latter is key for when they start to write as movement in the hand is first governed by what is happening in the rest of their arm from the shoulder down to their wrist. The children will also be engaging their core muscles which help them steady their body as they become engaged in smaller movements such as those involved in completing jigsaws, working on a tablet, putting pen to paper or just concentrating in their group.

As you can see from the smiles on their faces – the children really embrace the Boulder room and everyone is happy to be involved at a level which suits their self-confidence.
