“Friendships born on the field of athletic strife are the real gold of competition” - Jesse Owens
At Morrison’s Academy every child has the opportunity to discover their passion for sport through our extensive programme of competitive matches and recreational co-curricular sports programme. Talented and committed teachers, coaches and instructors ensure that pupils develop their skills in a wide range of sports in a safe and fun environment while encouraging core attitudes of friendship, discipline, resilience and determination.
Primary pupils have the opportunity to participate in lunchtime and after-school activities which complement the work covered in Physical Education classes. At this stage, pupils’ motor skills, coordination and fitness are developed through participation in a variety of clubs including netball, swimming, short tennis, football, golf and gymnastics.
In the winter and spring terms we follow a traditional Games’ programme of hockey for the girls and rugby for the boys. Supported by lunchtime and after-school practices, our Saturday morning fixture list allows pupils from P6 to 1st XI and 1st XV level to experience the core values of team sport while representing the school with pride, passion and collective spirit. The Summer Games programme takes a different approach with pupils given the opportunity for individual challenge in athletics, tennis and outdoor pursuits.
Specialist coaching is offered in golf, cricket and tennis and for those children whose talents lie in other sports we support them in their endeavours and encourage them to represent the school in District and National competitions. Recent success has been enjoyed by our pupils in Canoeing, Athletics, Badminton, Horse Riding and Golf.
All children are encouraged to be physically active with a range of opportunities for non-competitive sport at Morrison’s Academy also on offer. With numerous activities including kayaking, aerobics and basketball available we have something for every child to enjoy!
