Salut! Ça va? Guten Tag! Wie geht's? ¡Buenos Días! ¿Qué tal?

Former pupils of Morrison's Academy can be found all over the world and in all walks of life and many will find themselves speaking languages other than English, perhaps for business or just for pleasure. That's why language learning plays a central role in the curriculum of the school. And as business and tourism language needs grow, the Modern Languages Department strives to equip pupils with the language learning skills which will help them cope and thrive, no matter which language they may need in their future.

Courses
In Morrison's Academy, pupils begin learning French in Primary 4 & 5 as a fun activity with members of the primary staff before making the transition to a more formal learning experience with dedicated language specialists from P6.

In S1 & S2 pupils study 2 foreign languages.  From session 2008-09, pupils in S1 will study German or Spanish in addition to French, before choosing which language(s) they wish to study to examination level. In S3 it is possible for enthusiastic language learners to study all three languages.

The department provides courses in all 3 languages from Standard Grade/Intermediate 2 in S4 up to Advanced Higher level in S6.

Teachers use a wide and stimulating variety of resources in interactive situations to develop pupils' ability to communicate orally and in written form.

Pupils are encouraged to develop their interest in foreign languages outside the classroom and to that end outings are regularly organised to the Goethe Institut and foreign language cinema performances. The department contributes to various overseas trips and in 2008 we initiated an exchange for senior pupils with the Institution Sainte-Marie in Antony, near Paris, France.
