Subjects
Our primary focus is the academic life of the school, and a broad range of subjects are offered at each level. We firmly believe in providing a wide choice for pupils, allowing youngsters to movegradually from a broad curriculum in S1 and S2 to in-depth specialised study in S5 and S6.
In S1 and S2, pupils study a wide range of subjects with emphasis still placed on consolidating literacy and numeracy skills. At the end of S2, pupils choose 8 subjects that they will study towards national qualifications (Intermediate 1 or Intermediate 2), with examinations taken in S4. At this stage, all Morrison's pupils continue studying Maths, English, at least one science, one foreign language and one social science subject. Although we ensure all pupils continue with a broad programme, it is possible to study 3 sciences. All Intermediate courses have an element of internal assessment but most subjects culminate in a final exam in S4.
At the end of S4, pupils choose to continue with 5 subjects. Most of these will be taken at Higher level, which is the qualification standard for university entry, but Intermediate 2 courses are also available in a number of subjects.
In S6, pupils normally follow three or four courses. While many continue with 3 subjects to Advanced Higher level, there is flexibility to pick up subjects again or to begin a new subject such as PE or Photography at this stage.
