International Musical Partnership
Since 2002 the Music Department of Morrison’s Academy has been developing a musical partnership with Louise Schroeder Gymnasium in Munich. Every year (alternately in Scotland and Germany) there is a week of music-making during which pupils from both schools rehearse intensively together and stage concerts at which families, friends and the public can hear the results of their combined efforts.
A joint Choir, Orchestra and Band all go to make up a varied and impressive musical programme, and there are always more informal gatherings and performances as well, giving unique opportunities for the young Scots and Bavarians to get to know and understand each other in pursuit of a common cultural goal.
In the week prior to and including half-term this month a group of twenty-eight Morrisonians and three staff enjoyed an exceptional week at the Bayerische Musikakademie, Marktoberdorf, preparing excerpts from Handel’s Messiah and Haydn’s Symphony no. 31 as well as a variety of Big Band repertoire.
This year we were treated to an early snowfall which gave our sightseeing a real “Winter Wonderland” feel (and of course allowed for some snowballing).
With wonderful hospitality from all our hosts old friendships grew firmer and new ones were formed.
This is a unique privilege which our pupils enjoy and value highly.
