Transitional
The Transitional (Primary 7) classes hold a unique position at Morrison's Academy. At this stage the children still have the security of a classroom within the Beatrice Mason Primary Building as well as regular contact with a Primary teacher for the core subjects of Mathematics and English as well as Personal and Social Development, Religious and Moral Education and Information Technology.
However they also begin to have more direct contact with the Secondary School subject specialists, attending three periods of French and two each of Geography, History, Science, Art and Design, Music, Physical Education and Games.
Outwith the classroom walls the children are invited and encouraged to take on various roles of responsibility that involve them working cooperatively with other year groups. Transitional House Captains are elected by the pupils themselves and there is a Buddy System that allows some pupils to work with the much younger children. Primary Librarians are also usually chosen from the Transitional stage.
Each year, Transitional pupils haave the opportunity to take part in drama activities which result in either a school play or musical.
Continuing on from Primary 6, the scope for participation in extra curricular activities broadens and the children have increased opportunities for involvement. From Orchestra to Chess Club to scaling the Climbing Wall, there is usually something to suit every taste.
A key event in the Transitional calendar is the annual 5-day trip to Kindrogan Field Centre near Pitlochry. There the children participate in many practical activities like pond dipping and orienteering as well as various exciting team-building challenges that usually bring many smiles to many faces!
