MAPA
All parents and guardians of Morrison's pupils automatically become members of Morrison's Academy Parents' Association (MAPA).
The Parents' Association was founded to promote a connection between the school and parents in the interests of the well-being of all pupils. Throughout the year, events and gatherings are organised by the MAPA committee with the aim of fostering friendly relations amongst parents and between parents and the school.
We hope you will come to these events, meet up, join in, but most of all enjoy yourselves.
Some of you may wish to get involved at committee level and that would be great - the more the merrier. We are always keen to have parents who want to get involved and will welcome you with open arms.
The MAPA committee is made up of ordinary parents with no special qualifications other than a wish to get involved with other parents and help the school by organising social events.
We meet about half-a-dozen times a year to plan events. There are some teacher delegates on the committee which helps us stay in touch with the staff. The Rector usually attends our meetings; this provides invaluable support for us and also ensures we are acting in the school's best interest. It is not all hard work - we have a lot of fun too!
Elections for the Committee take place at our AGM which is usually held in September. We can co-opt extra members throughout the year so, if you are interested, get in touch.
If you do not want to join the committee but you wish to comment on MAPA or MAPA activities please do - we are happy to hear from everyone at anytime. Contact our Chair, Ruth Howie on 07941 525667 or email MAPA@morrisonsacademy.org
MAPA runs the refreshments tent on Sports Day and the Christmas Fayre as fundraisers to enable us to pay for the activities we support in school - for example complimentary refreshments during school productions and the annual MAPA Family Barbeque. Any funds left over are used for the benefit of Morrison's pupils.
The MAPA Committee also operates a Nearly New Shop selling good-quality items of school uniform (including sports equipment) at much-reduced prices. We have extensive stock of most items. We are strict about quality control, disposing of any clothing that is not in good condition, so you can buy with confidence. Every garment has been laundered by us so your child can wear it immediately. We also have some Ski wear and horse riding wear. The Nearly New shop is housed in the blue building (the former cricket pavilion) at the bottom of Academy Park, within the main school school grounds.
The shop is open every Monday afternoon between 3pm and 4.30pm. In addition, it will open each day during the last week of the summer holidays between 11am and 1pm. If these times are unsuitable for you we will open by appointment. We are now offering a search service - you tell us what you want and we will try source it for you.
To arrange an appointment or an item search, email NNshop@morrisonsacademy.org or call Alison Beattie on 07960 449810.
The Nearly New Shop depends on donations of uniform for its survival, so please do think of us when clearing out your child's wardrobe. We are delighted to accept all items of uniform (including sports equipment), ski wear and riding wear as long as they are in good condition. We are especially keen to get more blazers and girls' kilts. We sell these bigger items on a 50/50 basis, half the proceeds returning to you and half to MAPA's funds.
CAN YOU HELP?
Maybe you can spare half an hour, or maybe you are available for a whole event. Either way, we would love to have you!
What we need mostly is volunteers to man refreshment stalls at various events. However, at the Christmas Fayre there is a wider variety of jobs on offer, from selling goods on stalls to managing the queue to see Santa at his grotto.
Please help us by giving half an hour; if everyone does we will have things covered in no time!
If you can volunteer for an event or want to offer assistance generally, please email your name and contact details to MAPAvolunteers@morrisonsacademy.org or call Ruth on 07941 525667
