Curriculum

The Nursery curriculum is described through a number of strands detailed below.

Emotional, personal and social development

We learn to

  • share and take turns,
  • follow rules,
  • persevere in difficult tasks,
  • respect the needs and feelings of others,
  • form positive friendships and
  • gain in confidence and self esteem.

Communication and language

We learn to

  • listen to adults and peers,
  • concentrate in a group,
  • take part in conversations,
  • recognise familiar letters

Expressive and aesthetic development

We learn to

  • make music
  • use role play and puppets,
  • express thoughts and feelings in art
  • participate in simple dances and games
  • use a variety of media

Knowledge and understanding

We learn to

  • recognise colours and shapes
  • build jigsaws,
  • understand the routines of familiar people,
  • count, sort and categorise objects,
  • recognise numbers,
  • become aware of changes in ourselves and the world around us
  • recognise other countries and cultures

Physical development

We learn to

  • hop, skip, jump and balance with confidence
  • develop increasing control of fine movements of fingers and hands
  • effectively manipulate small tools such as scissors and pencils
