Curriculum
The Nursery curriculum is described through a number of strands detailed below.
Emotional, personal and social development
We learn to
- share and take turns,
- follow rules,
- persevere in difficult tasks,
- respect the needs and feelings of others,
- form positive friendships and
- gain in confidence and self esteem.
Communication and language
We learn to
- listen to adults and peers,
- concentrate in a group,
- take part in conversations,
- recognise familiar letters
Expressive and aesthetic development
We learn to
- make music
- use role play and puppets,
- express thoughts and feelings in art
- participate in simple dances and games
- use a variety of media
Knowledge and understanding
We learn to
- recognise colours and shapes
- build jigsaws,
- understand the routines of familiar people,
- count, sort and categorise objects,
- recognise numbers,
- become aware of changes in ourselves and the world around us
- recognise other countries and cultures
Physical development
We learn to
- hop, skip, jump and balance with confidence
- develop increasing control of fine movements of fingers and hands
- effectively manipulate small tools such as scissors and pencils
