A Burns Celebration
We started our day looking at all the wonderful tartan fabric we had worn - they were all so different and yet the patterns were all made using coloured lines, some thick and some thin. Some tartans were 'ancient' whilst others were 'hunting' and some were just 'beautiful'!
Some of the children had brought in 'Scottish items' for the 'show & tell' session and they were discussed at length. We made placemats showing Burns and one of his poems - it was very hard to say some of the words.
Then Emily's mum, Trudy, came to play her bagpipes for us. We could not stop jiggling around. It was fantastic and Mrs Thomson had a tear in her eye! Before going outside to do some Scottish Country Dancing we had a snack of 'Haggis, Neep and Tatties'.
What a busy day we had.

What excitement! Tommy ran round the house looking for all the tartan we own. He did look a bit like Chick Murray with a tartan tammie,a scotland rugby shirt and a Black Watch tie, but what a wonderful time he had and how proud he is to be (half) Scottish! It is so lovely that the children can celebrate who they are and their roots as well as having great fun too. Thank you to all their teachers for organising such a super day.

I really liked the bagpipes. They were very loud and I had to put my hands over my ears but I liked them.

Gregor is really proud of his kilt (just like Dad's) and loved the chance to wear it to nursery, he really enjoyed the day.

it was great to see the children all wearing tartan. emily loved wearing her black watch dress especially as her papa and great grandpa were in the black watch army. Thank you for letting me play for the children. I had a great time and i hope we may have a few pipers in the making! Emily had a fantastic day. Special thanks to all the staff for the well organised event.

Ailise really enjoyed the Burns Day celebrations and loved finding tartan to wear. She had lots of tartan ribbons in her hair! The bagpipes were apparently very loud and she said she did not try the haggis - it did not look yummy.... Sorry she won't try it at home either. A great day and lovely to see them all in their tartan items.
