Current Projects
There are a number of exciting changes happening at Morrison's Academy that will significantly enhance the opportunities available to our pupils as they move up through the school.
The initial phase, which will begin this session, involves two major projects. The first of these will involve the restructuring of the inside of the library building to create a Sixth-Form and Academic Resource Centre. Open to all pupils the Academic Resource Centre will provide a large, modern and attractively furnished area where pupils can use state of the art communications technology as well as more traditional paper-based systems to research their studies. In order to prepare our pupils for tertiary education which is, after all, the destination of over 95% of our S6 leavers, the centre will deliberately replicate the environment typically found in universities. Access to a lecture theatre and tutorial rooms will help prepare our S5 and S6 for a confident start. An additional feature of the centre will be ‘breakout' areas designed for project and team work. Together these facilities will add significantly to the school's academic profile as well as giving the older pupils an ideal springboard for university education.
The second project will be the laying of an all-weather playing surface at Dallerie, our sports ground. This will greatly enhance our games provision, with hockey benefiting most obviously. Tennis courts will also be marked out on the all weather surface as will a full-size football pitch and two five-a-side pitches. The all-weather surface can also be used for non-contact rugby skills when the grass pitches are unplayable. The provision of such a surface will transform the coaching of a number of major school sports and provide the boys and girls with more opportunity. In a world where there is an increasing premium on healthy activity this can only be greatly to their benefit.
A further aspect of this first phase of the plan will be a significant investment in the increased use of technology in the classrooms. Smart boards and digital projectors will be introduced more widely, adding to the quality of teaching and learning. This new technology has the capacity to enhance the interactive style of teaching and is of direct benefit to all the pupils.
Future phases of the 10-year business plan will include the construction of a performing arts centre, a purpose-built nursery and new school refectory, all to be built on the main school site.
These changes will make a huge difference to the educational experience of all the boys and girls as they move up through the school. Morrison's Academy is already a very fine school, these developments will strengthen it even further.
