Admissions policy

At Morrison's Academy we seek to ensure that all those boys and girls who are admitted to the school will thrive in an environment of high academic expectation, will be able to benefit from the rounded education provided and be happy within the school community.  We recognise our duty to embrace diversity and to work to overcome prejudice.  We do not discriminate on grounds of diversity, gender, race or religion.

At the point of admission to Morrison's Academy it is made clear to all prospective pupils and their parents that they are expected to co-operate with the teaching and support staff and to promote the greater good of the whole community.  We also wish to establish a full partnership with parents in order to promote the interests of the pupil body.  This partnership must be based upon mutual honesty and respect.  We have the right to expect full disclosure of any learning support assessment or identified need, or medical condition or disability, which could require specialist treatment, support or equipment, and any behavioural or disciplinary issues known to parents at the point of application, and thereafter.  This information is essential to assist with any interview or other pre-assessment screening.

We seek to offer places to those whom we believe can contribute positively to the Morrison's community, and whom we can educate and safeguard within our own teaching, pastoral and learning support structure.

Boys and girls who apply to the school must meet the school's academic entrance requirements.  At P1 level we have no formal test:  instead the offer of a place will be conditional upon the applicant being screened for suitability by the P1 teacher.  From P2 up to S2 we administer a nationally benchmarked entrance test that is designed specifically for the age group in question.  Applicants wishing to join the school in S3 or above will be asked to complete a nationally recognised cognitive ability test.  All applicants will be asked to provide a copy of their most recent school report and, where it applies, a copy of public examination grades attained. We reserve the right to make direct contact with any previous school or educational establishment and to request a confidential report.  This will ask for comment on academic progress to date, involvement in the broader life of the school and general behavioural standards.

Collectively, all this information allows Morrison's Academy to be reasonably sure that it is the right school academically for each boy or girl and to tailor our academic courses to meet the needs of the pupils.  The school wants to be able to educate and develop each pupil to the best of his or her ability and to ensure that any prospective pupil will be academically and socially at ease with his or her peers.  In this way there is every chance that all pupils will emerge at the end of their time at Morrison's Academy having enjoyed the school and confident in their next steps.

Progression from one part of the school to another is expected but cannot be guaranteed:  there are occasions when such progression is not in the interests of either the child or the wider community.  In such circumstances we would inform the parents well in advance and offer guidance as to future options for schooling.

All those joining the School must agree to abide by the Standard terms and Conditions of Morrison's Academy and to adhere to relevant school rules and policies.

If you have any questions regarding this statement of policy please contact the Rector, Mr Simon Pengelley.
