Sport

The main school team games are rugby and cricket for boys and hockey and tennis for girls. Rugby and hockey are an integral and valuable part of a child's education at Morrison's Academy. Through a full programme of competitive team fixtures from Primary 6 right through to the Senior School, pupils are able to develop social skills which make them better able to cope with both victory and adversity and forge friendships that will last a life time. Rugby is one of the sports ideally suited to diverse physical make-ups. Every body shape and skill level can be accommodated in its varied positional requirements and, as with Morrison's Academy's continuing ethos, we encourage every pupil to: "achieve the best of which he or she is capable".

In order for every pupil to gain as much out of all that the school offers, Morrison's Academy makes rugby and hockey compulsory for all pupils at S1, S2, and S3 level. Morrison's plays approximately 20 fixtures at S1, S2, S3 and Senior Levels in the months between August and March. The Primary team plays approximately 10 games over the same period of time. Our opposition includes Perth Academy, George Watson's College, Dundee High School, The High School of Glasgow, George Heriot's School and Dollar Academy amongst others. We also compete in the Scottish Schools Cup. We host an annual invitation tournament for five schools every March at Dallerie.

Home fixtures are played on the six rugby pitches and five grass hockey pitches at Dallerie the school's playing fields. It is planned that we will have our own artificial pitch built at Dallerie in the very near future. This exciting development will be of great benefit to the hockey players in the school.

Cricket is played by boys from P.6 to S.6. During the spring term, juniors and seniors play in the nets in the games hall on Mondays after school and in the evening. The evening sessions are run in conjunction with Crieff CC. During the summer term, teams at Primary, S1, S2, S3 and 1st XI play regular matches against other schools; home fixtures are played on the three grass cricket squares at Dallerie the school's playing fields. The strength of the first eleven varies from year to year; Morrison's plays against teams from the larger day independent schools and the two local clubs Crieff CC and Comrie CC. Practices in the summer term are held at Dallerie in the artificial nets after school.

Tennis fixtures are played by girls in the senior school with two senior teams and one at each year group. We also host two invitation tournaments at S1 and Primary level in May. These fixtures are played on the seven tennis courts on the school campus.

Other teams representing the school include athletics, boys' tennis, netball, curling, basketball and golf. The department also coordinates an extensive inter house competition which culminates with Sports Day at Dallerie in June

Touring has become a big part of the games tradition in Morrison's. Alan Andrews started this with the Colts tour in 1987 and subsequent tours have gone to England on numerous occasions with the first joint tour going to the Lake District in 1993. Recently the girls' hockey team visited Barcelona in 2002 with a joint rugby and hockey tour visiting Dublin in 2004. Both of these trips received grateful help with the purchase of kit from the Morrisonian club. There was a weekend away to Speyside for the Colts at the start of September in 2005 and we went back to Barcelona in October 2006 with the senior hockey and rugby squads.  In 2008 the senior squads went to Lake Garda in Italy where they enjoyed two games each as well as visits to Verona and Venice and the Gardaland theme park.
