Drama

Morrison's Academy prides itself in the quality of its dramatic productions. Over the last decade or so, a tradition of slick, professional performances has been established and many pupils have delighted in ‘treading the boards' to critical acclaim. The educational and social benefits of participating in these events are priceless.

Dedicated staff ensure that the best is brought out of the pupils and the confidence which students gain from their involvement is almost tangible. Those children who do not wish to exercise their thespian talents are also given the chance to be part of the production team: lighting, stage management, make-up and front-of-house are a few of the areas where pupils can participate and feel part of the show.

The breadth and variety of the plays and musicals which have been mounted are a testament to the enthusiasm and commitment of the staff: Bugsy Malone, Oliver!, Tom Sawyer, The Angry Jury (an adaptation of the screenplay 12 Angry Men), The Importance of Being Earnest, Telling Wilde Tales (an adaptation of Oscar Wilde's fairy stories), Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, A Christmas Carol adn The Monster that Ate 3B. We have also enjoyed the world premiere of a play called Jerry Springer Meets Macbeth, a hugely entertaining mixture of trash TV and Shakespeare, written by the Head of English, Mr. O'Kane.

If your child is interested in dramatic productions, Morrison's Academy provides opportunity and encouragement for him/her. The high standards of performance that are demanded from the pupils result in memories of productions that remain with them long after their school days are over!
