S1 Sweetie Challenge. Part 2
Previous result - Blues 16 / Reds 12
With a smaller pitch it was clear that Henry's team had their work cut out to cope with the confident Blues. The Blues problem was the lack of their Captain so it looked fairly even apart from the extra player the Blues had for the second part of the game. If you remember, the Reds had an extra player for the whole of Sweetie challenge pt 1!
Henry Captained the Reds and Euan the Blues. It quickly became clear that with no lines the usual condition of not running over three lines couldn't be played and with big Michael driving through it was no surprise when he crashed over for the first try! The Reds, apart from Oscar, did a great job of avoiding Michael (who could blame them!) so Michael was restricted to 5 paces and had to set up the ball. This helped continuity and the Blues forwards took the game on with gusto! Daniel Forster was just immense in this aspect.
It was all Blues for the first half and Euan ran with confidence to score. The Reds were not completely out of the game and once Richard was eventually given the ball with space he ran in an excellent solo try.
Half time came with the score 6 - 3 to the Blues and with the withdrawal of only a couple of players the scene was set for a cracking second half.
Henry's team took a quick restart and Henry got over for the equalizing try but the response was almost immediate and Jed crashed over from a good drive. Henry tried to get his players moving forward and James Ewart was playing brilliantly with Oscar supporting him and James Wyllie close behind. With little room the mighty figure of Michael seemed to knock back all the Reds attacks and when Dhillion and Daniel F were not stealing the ball or driving players off 'Hendo' was! The pick of the tackles goes to Dougie Vivers who had earlier dumped James Ewart and dragged down Henry, both try-saving tackles. This one was a cracker. The ball was kicked and the covering Henry ran through at least half the Blues team jinking and side stepping until a sudden crash as Dougie tackled him perfectly onto his backside and dislodging the ball. The Blues attacked with the loose ball and Euan got his second try from Dougie's tackle!
Henry was clearly not happy but after a period on the side recovering he came back on and scored again with a trademark outside break! The Blues were also not happy and that man Euan Henderson was at the start of just about every attack and the Reds struggled to cope with him! One such Hendo-inspired drive got the ball to Jed who is showing his promise and possible intention to move into the forwards with a low and decisive drive to score what looked like the winning try.
The Reds were still competitive and in a similar fashion to the last game, but reversed, the Blues possibly relaxed and the ball was dragged from the Blues hands and spun wide to Richard who once again was in space and on his own line! He managed to break through Michael's despairing tackle and avoiding the flailing arms of the other Reds scored another excellent long range solo try. The last 3 minutes were tight with no quarter given. The final score reflects a game of two halves and a comeback from individual players in the Red team. Players of note were Cammy, Michael, 2 Euans, Jed and Daniel F for the Blues and Henry, Richard, Alistair and Oscar for the Reds. The clear favourite for both teams was Dougie Vivers for his fearless tackling throughout the game.
The final score was 15 - 15 so overall the score is now Blues 31 - 27 Reds.
There is a fixture against Auchterader High on 4th Mar and it hoped to play both teams against them at Dallerie. Please can players make themselves available?
